Academy project is on schedule

PENN YAN—The Penn Yan Central School District Board of Education heard more good news about the capital project at the Academy during their April 7 meeting.
LeChase Construction manager Jim Higgins said the band, chorus and fitness areas are progressing well and the new lobby is “in good shape.” In the auditorium, the sound booth electrical is nearly complete. Higgins said steel for the science addition will probably start next week. June 28, renovation of the team room and technology portion of the project will begin. This is slightly ahead of schedule. Work on the roof began last week.
In other business: the board heard the internal claims auditor report from Ellen Murphy who said everything appears to be in order for the quarter.
• The resignation of Academy English teacher Jennifer Susa was accepted, effective June 30.
A special board of education meeting scheduled April 14 was canceled because it was not needed. The next meeting of the board of education will be 7 p.m. April 28 in the elementary school cafeteria.
