Aceyt Foods delays Dundee operations

DUNDEE—Aceyt Foods has delayed their food production operations at the former Dundee Foods building until at least the fall.
Aceyt purchased the Dundee facility from LiDestri Foods in January 2012. Aceyt’s project is being handled by Ascent Principal Group based in New York City. Kirk McAfee, chief executive officer of Ascent, said they “do not foresee taking over the facility from LiDestri until the fall.” McAfee said LiDestri has extended their use of the facility.
Steve Griffin, Finger Lakes Economic Development Center executive director, said the companies are still finalizing the business plans. He added Aceyt’s Dundee operations are delayed by at least two months.
“It’s probably an agreement that works out well for both parties,” said Griffin. He said it gives Aceyt time to organize their plans, while LiDestri continues some operations in Dundee.
In January, the plan was for Aceyt to operate the plant in Dundee through the first half of the year under a lease with LiDestri Foods. The company also said it would relocate some of the equipment from its Waterbury, Conn. plant to Dundee in the months following January. Within a year, the owners said Aceyt planned to have 20 people employed at the plant and 40 people by the end of three years.
Aceyt Foods plans to process Mediterranean-style food. McAfee’s partner in this venture is Aziz Debbagh, who owns similar food processing plants in Connecticut and Florida.
