Authorities find two bodies

YATES COUNTY—Two bodies were found April 2 and 4, in Yates County.
The body found Sunday, April 4, near Flat Street in Benton, has been identified as Marilyn Whitaker, 83, of Penn Yan. According to the Yates County Sheriff’s Department, a male body was also found Friday, April 2, in Seneca Lake, near Perry Point in Torrey, but has not been identified yet.
Whitaker was last seen Jan. 22. According to the Yates Sheriff’s Office, the examination of the body did not reveal any signs of trauma or fractures. The department said the body was found by property owners.
The report said Whitaker was in different clothes from what she was last seen wearing. Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike said the theory is she returned home, changed, and went back outside again the day she was missing.
“All indications point to natural causes at this point, but the medical examiner will have the final determination,” said Spike.
The sheriff’s report said that the male body was taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiners, as well as a foot and sneaker found by Geneva police at the north end of the lake for comparison. Spike said the body was badly decomposed and “incomplete.”
Spike said finding “two unidentified bodies in as many days is very rare for this county.”
