Barrington town board 02/24/10

Meeting:  The Barrington town board meet Wednesday, Feb. 24, for one hour and 20 minutes, including an executive session.
Attendance:
Bruce Castner was the only board member absent.  There were two members of the public in the audience.
Action:  The board approved putting the town jeep out to bid so it can be sold.  Board member Ken Christensen Jr. said when the town first wanted to buy the jeep he thought it was a good idea.  However, now he said the board should recoup its losses and sell it.  Board member Nate Olney agreed.  The board will accept bids until April 28, with the option to refuse any and all bids.
• The board also approved sending in a letter of support for the Keuka Housing Council.
• The town hall boiler will be fixed by Cam Sutherland and Sons for just over $620.  Streets Superintendent Steve Wheeler said it was the cheaper of the two estimates he got.  However, he noted the estimate did not include installing a light on the back of the town hall.  The board still approved that estimate, but will ask for the price to include the light.
Discussion without action:  Planning board chair Sue Lange asked the town board if the two boards could meet.  She said she wanted to go over the sign law amendment the planning board is working on changing.
• Stan Dobromil, town accountant, spoke about the Aflac insurance program a representative talked about at the last meeting.  He said, if it was an after tax program, there wouldn’t be anything extra the town would need to do.  However, he said he wanted to read through the information more.
Upcoming meetings:  The next regular board meeting will be Wednesday, March 24, at 7 p.m.
