Barrington town board 2/22/12

Meeting:  The Barrington town board met for 20 minutes on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
Attendance:  Supervisor Fred Wright was the only board member absent.  There were two members of the public in the audience.
Action:  The board approved Highway Superintendent Steve Wheeler to put reflectors up at the end of the town hall’s driveway.  Board member Calvin Crosby expressed concerns about the safety of cars pulling out of the driveway because it is so dark at night.
    • The board also talked about additional exterior lighting and better lighting for the flagpole.  Board Member Ken Christensen Jr. volunteered to look into a new light for the hall roof that points at the flag.  Wheeler explained water gets into the light and breaks it.  Clerk Joy Perry added that she has a new flag to replace the frayed one currently on the pole.
Discussion without action:  Christensen reported he was present, Feb. 13, when the old Birkett water gate was opened.  The gate is one of six that are used to regulate the Keuka Lake level.  He explained the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Army Core of Engineers were present, adding the old gate was tested twice.  He said it was determined the gate is still usable if it is needed.  Christensen added it hasn’t been opened in at least 15 years.
    • Perry reported Building and Zoning Officer John Griffin did 82 permits last year, bringing in $12,226.78 to the town.  She added he also did 17 septic system inspections, equaling $850 in fees.
    • The Barrington Highway Department received an award for “exceptional service to the residents of Barrington” from Our Town RoCKS.
Upcoming meetings:  The next Barrington town board meeting is Wednesday, March 18, at p.m.
