Barrington town board 8/24/11

Meeting:  The Barrington town board met Wednesday, Aug. 24, for one hour and 20 minutes.
Attendance:  All board members were present.  There were no members of the public in the audience.
Action:  The board approved the county’s emergency management hazard mitigation plan.  Supervisor Fred Wright explained the plan will be updated no less than every five years.
Discussion without action:  A public hearing for the comprehensive plan revisions was held at the start of the meeting.  However, there were no comments from the public.  Planning board Chairperson Sue Lange said the town board would have the comprehensive plan back in November for a final vote.
    • Lange also asked the board to consider creating laws limiting storage of industrial waste and natural gas within the town.  The planning board was directed to start writing up the law.
    • Highway Superintendent Steve Wheeler said the Federal Emergency Management Agency has been through the town.  He added he has almost all of the paperwork for the inspection done.
    • Board member Ken Christsensen Jr. pointed out the board members and town officials now have professionally made nameplates.  He said they cost a total of $171.  A resident had requested the board have such identification at a previous meeting.
Bids/purchases over $1,000: The board approved ordering a replacement snow plow for $7,800.  The money for the piece of equipment came from an insurance reimbursement.
Appointments/resignations: Kathy Danielson was approved to join the ethics board.
Upcoming meetings:  The next regular Barrington town board meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m.
