Board appoints Rubin as chair

PENN YAN–Ronald Rubin will serve as the new chair of the Yates County Planning Board.  The board appointed Rubin to the position during their meeting on Thursday, Jan. 26.
Rubin has previously served on the Town of Jerusalem Zoning Board of Appeals and the board for the Humane Society of Yates County.  He is also a member of the Penn Yan Lions Club.  Rubin said he wants the board to continue serving Yates County in a strong manner.  “We’re here to look at things from the county-wide perspective,” he said.  “The board has done a good job in the past and I want to continue that moving forward.”
Rubin is succeeding Jim Ritter as chair.  Ritter will still continue serving on the planning board.
    In other business:
    • Charles Mitchell was appointed vice-chair of the planning board.  Mitchell said “it’s an honor” to hold the position.
    • The board approved the year-long moratorium adopted by the Town of Torrey on hydrofracking and directional gas drilling.
    •  Keuka Area Design Service’s application requesting three variances to construct a detached garage in Milo was approved.  The property, located at 312 East Lake Rd., is currently owned by Carol and Richard Correnti.
