Board approves Dundee Day bed races

DUNDEE—There are five months until Dundee Day in July, and the Social Health Committee of Our Town RoCKS is already making plans for the event.
During the meeting of the Dundee village board on Tuesday, Feb. 23, trustees approved bed races during Dundee Day on July 9. Social health committee member Linda Schuler asked trustees to close a section of Seneca Street from noon until 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 9 for the race.
Seneca Street residents in the race area will be notified of the planned event. There is no conflict with the Boy Scouts barbecue in the park.  Schuler said any proceeds after expenses would be donated to Christmas for the Needy.
Trustee Warren Smith said years ago there was more fun to it. Smith said now some people think there are too many rules.
In other business:
•The lone bid for operation of the transfer station on Dundee-Glenora Road was received from Cardinal Disposal. The cost for a 13 gallon bag will be $2.
• Fire Chief Ray Miller reported the department received 34 calls for ambulance and nine calls for the fire department in February. Miller said 1,000 miles have been traveled by the ambulance so far this month.
• Budget workshops were scheduled with department heads on Feb. 24 and at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 4.
• Trustees approved a request from the Cancer Service Program project, “Turn Main Street Blue.” Balloons will be placed on the street from March 4 until March 11. There is a Dress in Blue Day as part of the project.
