Boat show commemorates the classics

HAMMONDSPORT-Classic boats and antique cars will be the stars of the weekend at the Wine Country Classic Boats event at Depot Park in Hammondsport. The boat show celebrates its 37th anniversary while the car show is in its second year. The main events take place on Saturday and Sunday with Friday being a setup and reception day.
Organizers expect 75 to 100 antique, classic and fiberglass boats on Keuka Lake as part of the show.
This year the display is highlighting boats that were built in the 1950s. Viewing docks will be set up in the park and a parade at 3 p.m., Saturday, will include the showboats in action. Slow parade laps take place first and then fly-by laps are performed for the crowd at the waterfront. The make of the boat, year and any special information is announced to the crowd as the boat passes.
Judging of the boats will occur throughout the morning, and vendors will be set up at the park with food offerings as well as apparel.
The car show will also be on display, Saturday.
Sunday will again have many of the boats on display and also include a poker run regatta in the morning. A chicken barbecue sponsored by the Boy Scouts will then be held in the afternoon.
Admission is free throughout the weekend and the show is handicapped accessible.
