Businesses can contribute to salary survey

SCHUYLER COUNTY—Businesses in Schuyler County will contribute salary information to the 2011 Twin Tiers Salary/Benefits Survey.
Schuyler County Partnership for Economic Development (SCOPED) Executive Director Kelsey Jones said this survey will provide information that was not previously available: actual comparable hourly rates between similar industry jobs. He explained that previously companies did not have an exact idea what other businesses paid employees.
“It will help our business be competitive,” said Jones.
SCOPED is jointly sponsoring the survey with the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce, the Central Bradford Progress and Three Rivers Development. The survey is being led by The Lenzner Solution, a Horseheads consulting firm.
Jones said companies in the Twin Tiers will get questionnaires in March. He added the completed results probably won’t be available until this summer. Jones explained the people behind the survey will likely want to double check information from some of the bigger companies to make sure salary data is accurately comparable to other similar jobs.
Jones said the survey is designed so that it will not list what a business is paying for a specific position. However, it will show what the salaries are for various jobs in general.
The one industry Jones said this survey will be most helpful for is natural gas drilling. He said if Marcellus Shale drilling comes to the area they will want to know what sorts of hour wages are being offered. He explained there have already been Schuyler County residents who have moved to Pennsylvania to take gas drilling related jobs.
“It will be good information depending on who participates,” said Jones. “It looks like most will.”
He said a lot of Schuyler County businesses are on board with contributing to the survey. This includes businesses in various industries.
