Businesses prepare for Montour House move

MONTOUR FALLS—The office space for Schuyler Hospital at the Montour House is almost done.
Chuck Perry, who works with Bruce Nelson as supervisor on the project, said Schuyler Hospital is scheduled to move in May 1. The hospital will move their patient accounting, business and Foundation offices into one of the four commercial spaces on the first floor. Perry said only touch up work remains, plus the final inspection next week.
Perry said doors to separate office rooms had to be cut out of the wall. The molding over the doors and up to the ceiling was cast to look just like the room’s original trim. Two bathrooms and a kitchenette were also built for the hospital. Other work included putting in new sheet rock, wiring, a new heating system, computer lines and a fresh coat of paint. Schuyler Hospital will have is own entrance off of Montour Street. Cubicles have already been set up.
Perry said Elmira Savings Bank is also supposed to move into their office space around May 1. Their space is in the front corner of the building, right next to Schuyler Hospital’s. He said the carpeting should be installed around the end of the month.
Work on the second floor apartments is also expected to start soon. Perry said a contractor will hopefully be coming in April 27 to start “tearing apart and putting back together” the four apartments on the second floor. The third floor will also hold four apartments when work is done.
The elevator, located in the lobby, is currently being installed. Work on the outside of the Montour House is also ongoing. Brickwork on the eaves near the roof is being repatched. The balconies out front are being rebuilt to look like they originally did.
Open houses are held at the Montour House on the second Friday of each month until work is complete. The next open house is Friday, May 8 from 6 to 8 p.m.
