Candidates prepare for March election

TRI-COUNTY AREA--Each village in the area is preparing for the upcoming March 15 election. The villages of Penn Yan and Rushville are among the few areas with contested races. Polls will be open from noon to 9 p.m. the day of the election, which will also include several uncontested elections in villages throughout the area.
In Penn Yan, there are five candidates running for three available trustee positions. Incumbent Rich Stewart is being challenged by Kevin McLoud, Danny Condella, Sarah Vestal and Stefan Lewandowski. Trustees Bob Church and Christine Christensen are not running for reelection. Matthew Conlon and Michael Christensen will also be competing for village justice. There will be a Meet the Candidates Night Thursday, March 10, at the Silverbird Woodfired and Gastropub at 133 East Elm St. beginning at 7 p.m.
In Rushville, incumbent Mayor Jon Bagley is being challenged by Trustee John Sawers. There are also three candidates running for two vacant trustee seats. Holly Krossber, Kimberly Payne and Dave Masters will all be on the March ballot for these positions.
The village of Dundee has an uncontested election as incumbent Trustees Judy Duquette and Larry Howell will both be running for reelection, while incumbent Paula Seeley will run unopposed for village justice. Village of Dresden Trustee Colleen Riviello is also running unopposed for reelection in March.
In Hammondsport, incumbents Anne C. Green and Barbara "Bee" Keck are running unopposed for their respective trustee seats.
Schuyler County will have no major contested elections March 15. Incumbents Anthony Fraboni and Laurie DeNardo are running unopposed for their Watkins Glen trustee positions, while incumbents Steve Lawton and Vincent Chicone do the same for their Montour Falls trustee seats. Incumbent John King is also running unopposed for mayor of Montour Falls.
In the village of Odessa, incumbents Thomas Letteer Jr. and Sally Hill are listed on the ballot as unopposed for reelection to their two village trustee seats. The village of Burdett race is also uncontested, as incumbent Trustees Laurence Jaynes and Diane White run for reelection.
