Candidates set for  September primary election

NEW YORK STATE—With the annual primary elections coming Tuesday, Sept. 9, the county board of elections has finalized the list of candidates running for seats. The Schuyler County positions up for election include one legislative position, while the state positions of governor and lieutenant governor are also on the line.
In Schuyler County Legislative District Six, incumbent Phil Barnes will be running against challenger Angeline Franzese. Both are running on the Republican ticket for a four-year term.
Statewide, there is a three-way race for governor, as incumbent Andrew M. Cuomo is being contested by fellow Democrats Zephyr R. Teachout and Randy A. Credico. The position is for a four-year term. The battle for lieutenant governor will be between Democrats Kathy C. Hochul and Timothy Wu for the four-year term. Current Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy has decided to not run for reelection.
The voting hours for the primary election will be from noon to 9 p.m.
The position recently vacated by former treasurer Gary Whyman will also be up for election during the November general election. Current Deputy Treasurer Harriett Vickio has announced she intends to run for the position, while Margaret Starbuck has also announced her intentions to run for the office.
Yates County only has one contested town council election.
In Jerusalem, Daryl Jones will be running against Robert Catlin for an unexpired term. Both are running on the Republican ticket for the one-year term.
