HAMMONDSPORT--The village square in Hammondsport will be filled with children and adults alike to help ring in the Christmas season, Saturday, Dec. 9. The holiday event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. and features many activities in the village.
Before the night begins, the Hammondsport Fire Department will host a breakfast with Santa at 8 a.m. Saturday morning at the fire station. Later that evening, Santa will rely on firefighters to drive him to the village square by fire truck.
Christmas in the Park officially gets underway at 4 p.m. as the Keuka Lake Players present "Rudolph and Friends" at the First Presbyterian Church. The performance is free for all to attend. Vendors will also be available starting at 4 in the village square.
Santa will make his entrance by firetruck at 6 p.m., and will meet with children in the bandstand this year. The usual meeting spot, the entrance of Community Bank, is under construction. There will also be a petting zoo and horse-drawn wagon rides for those that attend.
In addition to the events in the square, new this year is a storefront holiday decorating contest. The chamber of commerce has produced a holiday shopping guide which has a ballot to vote for your favorite store. Voting started Nov. 25 and continues until Dec. 23.
