WATKINS GLEN--Watkins Glen Trustee Paul Clifford announced his immediate resignation from the board during their regular meeting Monday, March 16. According to his resignation letter, Clifford said he had purchased a house outside of Watkins Glen and will be moving to Hector to make it their family residence. As residence in the village of Watkins Glen is required to serve as a trustee, Clifford must resign his position, a seat he has held for three and a half years.
Clifford's position will be filled by appointment following the election of a new board Wednesday, March 18, when they meet next month.
Trustee Kevin Smith was also recognized by the board for his service during the meeting. Smith is not running for reelection after also deciding to move out of the village. Swinnerton said Smith is a very intelligent individual, adding the village appreciates his past four years of service.
The board also recognized the service of former Village Justice Nicholas Dugo, who Swinnerton said has served in the position for the last 28 years.
