Condo project has new look, new name

HAMMONDSPORT—Plans recently approved for the condominium project on Hammondsport waterfront open up the view, alter the aesthetics, and take on a new name.
The paired structures originally were to be joined by elevated walkways, and by a central elevator tower. New plans place an elevator-stairway shaft at the outer end of each structure, leaving only space between the two buildings. This will somewhat improve visibility of the lake from the village.
John P. Schleyer, senior project manager for the Krog Corporation, said that earlier in the year Krog brought in Norbert Hausner as a new architect, after working with the Hausner firm on the Seneca Harbor hotel in Watkins Glen. The Hammondsport condominium, originally called Garrett Landing, will now be known as Keuka Harbor.
“This relates the project more closely to the lake,” said Schleyer. “We’re making changes inspired by the architectural texture of the depot. It ties in better with the village, and changes the whole aesthetics. We’ve got more detail, more trimming, scallops, clapboards, multiple colors… it fits in more with the old-time houses.”
Schleyer also said that after meeting with state, town, and village officials, Krog was resubmitting building plans to change framework from steel to wood, as a more economic material. Urbana building inspector Terry DeBuck said he was waiting for completed plans before considering a new building permit, and Schleyer said that plans were 85 to 90 percent finished.
Schleyer also said that his workers had been back on site the week of the12th, cleaning up, cutting vegetation, and erecting a new fence. He added that he hoped to be doing construction on the site this fall, depending on pricing, plans, permits, and the like.
