Dr. Frank Wine Cellars claims Winery of the Year, Governor's Cup

    FINGER LAKES—Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars was named the Winery of the Year and won the Governor's Cup in the 2012 New York Wine and Food Classic, Aug. 14.
    This is the third time Dr. Frank Wine Cellars has won Winery of the Year, first in 2001, then in 2006. The Governor’s Cup is the second for Dr. Frank’s, the first time being in 1996.  This year, the winery's 2011 semi-dry Riesling won the Governor's Cup.
    “Winning Winery of the Year and Governor’s Cup this year is extremely meaningful for us as we celebrate our 50th anniversary year. We could not be prouder,” said winery President Fred Frank in a press release.

    The event is organized by the New York Wine and Grape Foundation and featured 752 New York wines.
    Double gold awards also went to: Anthony Road Wine Company (2009 Riesling and 2011 Sweet Dream), Atwater Estate Vineyards (2008 Cuvée Brut), Finger Lakes Distilling (Seneca Drums Gin and Pear Brandy), Fox Run Vineyards (2010 Cabernet Franc Reserve), Fulkerson Winery (2011 Matinee), Glenora Wine Cellars (2011 Dry Riesling), Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards (2010 Homestead Reserve Riesling), Heron Hill (2010 semi-dry Riesling), Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars (2009 estate bottled Riesling Reserve), Seneca Shore Wine Cellars (Muscat, DeMarco Vineyards), and Torrey Ridge Winery (2010 Seyval Blanc).
