Dresden village board 1/4/12

Meeting:  The Dresden village board met Wednesday, Jan. 4, for 35 minutes.
Attendance:  All board members were present.  There were four members of the public in the audience.
Action:  The board approved the department of public works spending $332.48 on water meter registers and curb stop repair covers.  DPW Superintendent Brian Ellis added he had also got a price estimate on a generator for the water tank building, should operation be affected by a power outage.  He said it would cost $3,449.  Mayor Joe Gibson said the village can look at budgeting for it in the next fiscal year.
Discussion without action:  Gibson reported that the town of Torrey has refused to sign the contract with the fire department due to the cost.  He explained the village had trimmed down Torrey’s share from $139,000 to $117,000, but added the town still did not feel it was “acceptable enough.”  Gibson said the attorneys for the town and village are discussing the matter now.
    • Gibson also gave the board information on insurance rates.  He said Sprague Insurance is increasing the monthly cost per employee to $461, up $44.
    • A report from Pege Brow was read about the status of the zoning law update.  Hatter Reynolds said he has a digital copy of the current code with the proposed changes marked that he would like to put online.
    • The village and county planning boards each still have a vacant seat. Clerk Terry Dilts added that there is one Dresden trustee seat open for the  March village election, but no petition has been submitted yet.  The village also needs two people to serve as election inspectors.
Upcoming meetings:  The next regular Dresden village board meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
