Business owners can apply for grant DUNDEE—Community Progress Inc., located in Corning, is organizing interested Dundee business and building owners to apply for a 2013 Main Street grant. Julie Chevalier, executive director of Community Progress, explained this is the second time her office has worked with Dundee businesses to apply for a grant from New York State Housing and Community Renewal. She said last year’s application was not awarded any funds. She added seven Main Street businesses had applied previously. Dundee solar facility will be done Dec. 31 DUNDEE—The village of Dundee will be overseeing the construction of a solar power facility after the village received a grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Mayor Fred Cratsley Jr. announced the awarded grant during the village board meeting Tuesday, April 9. He said the solar facility would power the village’s 13 municipal meters and the cost savings to village residents and the community would amount to $174,000. Dundee adopts 2.8 percent school tax levy DUNDEE—The Dundee Central School Board adopted their 2013-14 budget containing a 2.8 percent tax levy increase during their meeting Thursday, April 11. The total $15,069,549 budget is up $656,404 from the previous budget, an increase of 4.6 percent. There will be a public hearing on the adopted budget Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. in the public meeting room and will be voted on by the community Tuesday, May 14 from noon to 8 p.m. in the public meeting room. According to the 2013-14 spending plan provided by School Business Official Melissa Lawson, $1,025,573 in the district’s reserve funds will be applied to the budget. Without the use of the reserves, the tax levy increase would amount to a 25.5 percent increase. Dundee’s Hill earns Firefighter of the Year YATES COUNTY—Yates County honored their emergency service members and first responders at an awards banquet Friday, April 5 at the Benton Fire Department, naming Dundee’s Steve Hill the Fireman of the Year 2012. President Tracey Miller of the Yates County Fire Chief’s Association said Hill has been in the department since 1968 and is dedicated to fire service. Miller was given the Roger Ribble Sr. award for his dedication to fire service, passing on fire department traditions and sharing his knowledge with other firefighters. Jeff Housel presented Miller with the award saying he is always willing to give help to other departments and is a big help explaining the operation of trucks and pumps while training new members. Dundee village budget is 16K over tax cap DUNDEE—Mayor Fred Cratsley Jr. said the village of Dundee is currently $16,000 more than the 2 percent tax cap for next year’s budget during the village board meeting Tuesday, March 12. Cratsley mentioned this during a discussion about whether or not Dundee should hold a village-wide cleanup day. Cratsley said a village cleanup is a good idea, but since the village does not have the necessary equipment to run one and are already $16,000 past the 2 percent tax cap, he does not see where the village would be able to afford it, especially right now before they approve the budget for next year.
