Dundee drops close contest to Red Jacket

DUNDEE--The Dundee varsity football team suffered a close home loss to the Red Jacket Indians 41-38 Saturday, Sept. 26. The Scots moved to a 1-3 record on the season.
The Scots fell to an early 13-0 deficit after the Indians scored on their first two offensive drives. Dundee aired the ball out on offense, scoring the first time in the second quarter on an 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Austin Thompson to wideout Devin Jensen.
Red Jacket responded with a 46-yard touchdown pass on their next drive to go up 19-7, but Dundee kept up the aerial attack with a 36-yard touchdown pass to running back Trevor Teeter to bring the score to 19-14. Defensive back Jayson Lovejoy recovered a fumble to give Dundee the ball with 19 seconds left in the half, but the Scots were unable to score before time ran out.
Dundee kicked to begin the second half, but Red Jacket drove down the field to score, going up 25-14. Dundee began their next drive at the 41-yard line, scoring on a two play drive capped off by a 56-yard touchdown pass from Austin to Fiorilla. A failed extra-point brought the score to 25-20.
Linebacker Damon Empson stripped the ball from the quarterback on the next Dundee defensive series which was returned 60 yards by Fiorilla for a touchdown. Dundee took the lead for the first time in the game 26-25, which was the score to end the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Red Jacket punted on their next offensive series, but the snap went over the punter's head. The Indians fell on it, but turned it over on downs on their own eight-yard line. Thompson scored on a five yard quarterback keeper on third down, putting the score at 32-25 Dundee.
The Indians responded with a drive-capping five-yard touchdown run, taking a 33-32 lead after a successful two-point conversion. The Scots drove into Red Jacket territory, scoring on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Thompson to Jensen to cap off a 10-play drive. Dundee failed to convert the two-point attempt, taking a five-point lead 38-33.
Red Jacket's offense began their drive with 3:02 left in the game with all three of their timeouts remaining. A 42-yard rushing touchdown gave Red Jacket the lead 41-38 with 64 seconds left in the game.
Dundee took over the ball at the 45-yard line. A long pass to Fiorilla set the Scots up at the Red Jacket 13-yard line, but the following pass attempt was intercepted off a tipped ball. The Indians ran out the clock to win the game 41-38.
