Dundee Fire Department now offers emergency access boxes

DUNDEE--The Dundee Fire Department has established a new emergency access program supporting homeowners in the Dundee fire district. The program uses the new Knox HomeBox single key vault. This will provide the fire department or ambulance rapid access to a home in an emergency without forcing entry.
The HomeBox is a heavy-duty secure key vault installed outside your home typically on or near the front door. Once the homeowner has the unit installed, they contact the fire department and arrange a time to place an extra house key inside the box and lock it. Only the fire department can lock or unlock the vault.
In a home emergency requiring assistance, the responding ambulance or fire crews can open the HomeBox and enter the house. This avoids a forced entry and the costly repairs of breaking down the door or a window. Once the EMTs or firefighters are inside they can address the situation and take the appropriate action. This could occur if people inside and unable to open the door or if the house is unoccupied. When completed, they will re-secure the home and return the house key to the HomeBox.
"Having home emergency access will assist us in saving people and property," said Dundee department officials. "The Knox HomeBox will help us enter the home quickly without damaging property."
The Knox HomeBox costs between $158 and $174. There are also additional options for businesses.
Contact the Dundee Fire Department at 607-243-8441 with questions. The Dundee Fire Department and Ambulance can only open a Knox Box in their district. If you are unsure of your district, check with the department first.
