Dundee Library will expand

DUNDEE--The Dundee Library has approved a capital project plan to expand their facility.
Kay Thomas, a library trustee said, "We will be adding a community room at the back of the library this year and then in 2020 the library will expand the children's room."
Thomas said the library applied for a grant from the Southern Tier Library System in 2018. The grant was approved to be used in two separate phases (starting in 2019 and the second part in 2020). Thomas said the first phase this year will include the community room with a kitchenette and a bathroom at the back of the building.
Phase one includes a $200,000 grant from STLS and the Dundee Library is responsible for providing $50,000 or 25 percent of the total project cost. Thomas said a building fund has been established and they have already received $20,000 in donations toward the goal. Thomas said they expect to receive the grant money soon and construction should begin later this year in November or December.
For the second phase of the project in 2020, a number of changes will be made to increase the size of the children's room. Thomas said the building changes were suggested by their architects while keeping in mind the building historical integrity. Thomas believes the second phase will also cost around $200,000 or maybe a little bit less.
Thomas added in 2020 the library will also celebrate their 100-year anniversary.
To make a donation to the building fund, checks can be made out to The Dundee Library Building Fund and mailed to 32 Water St., Dundee, NY 14837.
