Dundee man dies in weather related crash

YATES COUNTY— Craig A. Dykes, 38, Dundee, died in a car accident when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck another vehicle on Route 14A, Wednesday, Dec. 1.
"Weather was definitely a factor," said Sheriff Ron Spike.
According to the Yates County Sheriff's Department, Dykes crashed head-on into Amos J. Stoltzfus, 76, Penn Yan, who was driving in the other direction on 14A.  The report said Dykes was pronounced dead at the scene by Yates County Coroner John H. Cooley.  Authorities said Stoltzfus was rescued from his vehicle by the Penn Yan Fire Department and taken to Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital for a complaint of chest pains.
Loree MacKerchar, community relations manager for Soldiers and Sailors, said Stoltzfus was transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester later on Wednesday for a more advanced level of care.  According to Beth Geil, Strong Memorial Hospital representative, Stoltzfus was released as of the next day, Thursday, Dec. 2.
Spike said within the three hour window of rain and snow on Wednesday, the sheriff's department responded to at least 10 weather related accidents.  The weather also prompted the sheriff's department to release a "no unnecessary travel" advisory Wednesday afternoon for Yates County.
