Dundee plans March vote on field house

DUNDEE--Residents in the Dundee Central School District will be able to vote on whether or not to construct a new field house on the district's campus. The Dundee school board acted Thursday, Nov. 6 to set a public vote for March 3, 2015, which allows voters to decide the fate of the approximately 2,016 square foot field house project. The vote will take place from noon to 8 p.m. and will be held in the district's public meeting room.
The proposition on the ballot would amend a project approved by district voters March 31, 2009, to include the field house, which if approved, will be located at the pre-kindergarten-12 grade athletic field. The total project cost "is not to exceed $300,000," according to the resolution passed by the board. This cost includes related site work, original furnishings, fixtures, architectural fees and all other costs incidental to such work.
According to the resolution, the work will be paid for "by using unexpended bond proceeds from the completed 2009 project." Superintendent Kelly Houck said during a previous meeting the project needs to be put out for a vote due to the field house changing the scope of the original project, which it was not included in previously. Houck said the sports boosters were "thrilled about the potential for the field house," adding if it is approved by the voters, they are willing to help purchase appliances for the field house.
School Board President James Koehler said he believes the board has done a good job on the project, saving a lot of money based on what the original project entailed.
"It adds so much to community," Koehler said. "It is a huge community asset to all kinds of people."
