Dundee sets hearing for light industry

DUNDEE—The Dundee village board unanimously voted Tuesday, July 24 to set a public hearing Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. to discuss creating a light industrial district in the zoning chapter of the village code. Clerk Christine Sutherland said the board voted on an amendment to the zoning code and not on a specific project in the area. The proposal was also sent to the county planning board for approval.
If approved by the county planning board, this amendment would allow small, non-intrusive industrial facilities on the north side of Union Street from the fire department to Main Street. All board members agree any future light industrial site will not have a significant negative impact on the community and will only result in “small to moderate” increases in issues like traffic.
    In other business:
    • The board approved to go ahead with the original offer on 2.199 acres of land to be added to the Millard Street park. The board had initially believed the land to be 2.5 acres, but since the property lines were not any different from before the survey, the board agreed to go ahead with the purchase.
    • Purchases approved by the board included a $1,000 mechanical canvas canopy to cover a grit dumpster and a 40 uniform purchase from Lewis Uniforms for the fire department, valued at $325.38 per uniform.
    • Our Town RoCKS organizer Lauren Snyder presented the board with survey responses with a new list of goals for the community. The list included a website, community logo and a recreational water area. Snyder said a new three-year plan needs to be submitted to the Greater Rochester health Foundation based off the survey responses.
    • The board agreed to credit the property owner at 38 Bigelow Ave. with 9,000 gallons after a water usage dispute. Due to the unusual circumstances of the complaint, the board also agreed to keep an eye on the water meter before spending the money to fix it.
    • Mayor Fred Cratsley Jr. said there were mistakes made while installing the water line along main street, saying the bed of sand was not properly tamped before installation. Cratsley also said the water needs to be tested by the New York State Department of Health before the work can be completed.
    • The board unanimously voted to approve Richard Fritz as a member of the Dundee fire department.
The next Dundee village board meeting is Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m.
