DUNDEE--The New York State Police responded to a call Sunday, Nov. 8 at approximately 11 p.m. in the town of Starkey. The police press release said the call was "for a report of an unresponsive female possibly suffering from a heroin overdose." Upon arrival, the troopers located the victim, administered Naloxone and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). She was transported to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital in Penn Yan by Dundee Ambulance and then airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester where she died.
As of Tuesday, Nov. 10 at noon the New York State Police and the school had not released the victim's name, but the school has confirmed the female victim was a member of the class of 2016.
Dundee Central School Superintendent Kelly Houck called it "a very sad time at DCS," noting grief counselors are available to both students and community members.
"We met with staff early Monday morning to share the sad and devastating news of the untimely and unexpected loss of one of our students," Houck said. "We had our entire counseling staff on hand as well as additional counselors provided by Penn Yan School District and Schuyler County Mental Health. All were prepared and ready to meet with staff, students and community members that needed assistance at this difficult time. Counselors will be available for as long as needed."
According to the state police, further investigation into the incident is continuing.
