Dundee United Fund starts campaign
DUNDEE—The Dundee Area United Fund campaign is underway for the 56th year, seeking funds to help 15 agencies and groups in the Dundee community.
The United Fund is seeking $26,000 in total donations. The funds will be distributed to: the Dundee Library, $6,200; Christmas for the Needy, $3,200; Dundee Area Youth Center, $3,000; Dundee Area Historical Society, $2,800; Yates County American Red Cross, $2,500; Food Pantry, $1,500; Meals on Wheels, $1,500; Boy Scouts, $1,000; Girl Scouts, $1,000; Retired Senior Volunteer Program, $800; Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes, $750; Dundee Children’s Center, $500; Our Town RoCKS, $500; Yates Youth Services, $500; and Literacy Volunteers, $250.
The current goal is down from last year’s $27,200 total. In order to meet last year’s goal, United Fund volunteer Joan Washburn explained the group had to use $1,500 from its reserves. She said the United Fund wants to avoid going into the reserves this time because the money is limited.
The Dundee Teacher’s Association made their annual contribution to the campaign, Thursday, Oct. 4. This year the teachers donated $1,200.
United Fund co-chair Melanie Webster explained that donating to the Dundee Area United Fund benefits many groups at once. Webster added that if everyone gave a little the goal would be reached in no time.
Letters asking residents for support have also been mailed. Donations can be mailed to: Dundee Area United Fund, P.O. Box 15, Dundee, N.Y. 14837. Checks should be made payable to the Dundee Area United Fund.
