Dundee village, school discuss sharing services

DUNDEE—The village of Dundee and the Dundee Central School District may begin working toward sharing more services in the near future. School board President James Koehler attended the village board’s meeting Tuesday, June 24 to ask the board if they would be interested in the possibility of sharing a new maintenance building with the school district. He said while this is in the very preliminary stages, he was looking to other municipalities to gauge their possible interest in the project. Koehler said this would not be a firm commitment if the board was indeed interested.
“At this point we know we are going to be doing something with equipment maintenance buildings,” Koehler said. “Is there any interest from you following along in what we might do in that realm?”
Dundee Mayor Fred Cratsley Jr. said the board is interested in talking with the school. He said there are some things they may need to address with their current maintenance building.
Koehler said the building “may or may not house buses,” but would mainly be a shop to house trucks, tractors and other equipment. He said the village’s interest in the project would impact the overall way they would build the new facility. Koehler said the new shop would almost become its own entity, charging the school and the village for the work they conduct. He said it would typically be between four and five years before this project would come together.
Koehler indicated there would be a scoping meeting Monday, July 7 to go over what the building might require. He said the building would not be designed during that meeting, but mainly discussing what needs it would need to address.
“We know our shops are outdated,” Koehler said. “They are not serving their purpose. It’s time to think about these things.”
