Elections have many unopposed candidates

TRI-COUNTY AREA—Several villages in the area will be having elections come Wednesday, March 18.
In Dundee, two residents are running for the office of mayor, incumbent Craig Prior and current trustee Fred Cratsley Jr. Two trustee seats will be available, Cratsley’s and that of Dana Gibson who has chosen not to run for another term. Greg Wright and Warren Smith have filed petitions to run for the two available seats.
The village of Dresden has a rather unique situation. Current trustee Loujane Johns is running for mayor. Current mayor Roger Wadsworth and trustee Ronald Merritt are not seeking new terms of office. No one has filed petitions for either of the seats that are available. By law, if Johns is elected, she will appoint someone to complete her term on the board. The second seat will be decided by write-in votes.
In Hammondsport,  Mayor Emery Cummings and board members Stella Pulver and Bruce White are all running for their positions unopposed.
The villages of Odessa and Montour Falls will also have elections March 18 to fill several positions, but almost all candidates are running unopposed.
In Montour Falls, Mayor Donna Kelley is running unopposed for her position.  Board members Bonnie Howell and Sharon Wiedemer’s positions are also up for election.  Wiedemer is running for her seat, but Howell is not.  Her husband, Jim Howell, is the only person running for the vacancy his wife will leave.
In Odessa, the only position with more than one candidate is for justice.  The candidates are Ronald Goossen, Jeremy Hoffman and Richard Lewis, current justice for Odessa.  The mayor and two trustee positions are also up for the vote.  Board member Keith Pierce is running unopposed for mayor.  Board member Robin Thoman is running for his position unopposed and Shaun Crane is running unopposed for the last seat on the board.
