Fiddlers will be in Watkins

WATKINS GLEN—Fiddle music will fill the air at the Watkins Glen State Park this weekend, June 19 and 20.
The state park will once again host the Annual Old Time Fiddlers’ Gathering now in its 21st year, in the South Pavilion. The event features free performances Saturday and Sunday, as well as workshops for different levels of fiddler players. Despite the event being called a Fiddlers’ Gathering, it will also feature other musical instruments.
Many of the musicians are alumni of this event. The musical performances kick-off Saturday with John Cadley and the Lost Boys at 1 p.m. The Great Bear Trio is next at 2:30 p.m., followed by the BossTones at 4 p.m. The final Saturday performance is “Banjo Burke Ceili” with Bridget Burke & Pat Kane at 5:30 p.m.
The Jesse Alexander Band starts off Sunday at 1 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., the Homegrown String Band performs. Lux Bridge is next at 4 p.m. Traonach performs last at 5:30 p.m.
The workshops held in the Jammin’ Tent start Saturday, with “Beginning Fiddle” by Jessica Boss at 1:30 p.m. Next is “Bowing 747” with George Wilson at 3 p.m. The final workshop Saturday is “Fiddling for Dances” with the VanNorstrand Brothers at 4:30 p.m.
Sunday, the workshops start with “Improvising on the Fiddle” with Erica Jackofsky at 1 p.m. Lastly, taking a break from just fiddles, is “Beginning Banjo” with Rick Jackofsky at 4:30 p.m. The Jammin’ Tent is facilitated by Debra Chesman of Valley Folk Music, and as the name suggests, features several breakaway “jams” for fiddlers.
