Fire departments respond to Penn Yan blaze

PENN YAN—The Penn Yan Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the corner of Ogden and Lake Streets, Saturday, Nov. 13.
Penn Yan Police Chief Mark Hulse said four people were rescued from the second story of the building.  The fire department said in a press release that all occupants were rescued within minutes of the initial dispatch Saturday afternoon, including an infant.
Authorities explained the fire originated at the rear of the building and was extinguished within 15 minutes of dispatch.  The press release said when responders saw smoke, the alarm was given requesting additional help.
Hulse said Benton, Dresden, and Dundee assisted in the fire.  The Penn Yan Fire Department said a total of 42 firefighters contributed to the response.  He said in addition to the building, a truck was also damaged during the blaze.
