Fire destroys two houses, damages third

PENN YAN—A fire at 452 East Lake Rd. Penn Yan, has resulted in the loss of two houses, and exterior damage to a third.
The Yates County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call from the occupant, Chris H. Jensen, 83, at 12:14 a.m., Thursday, April 29.  According to the report, the house at 452 East Lake Rd. was completely engulfed in flames by the time the sheriff’s department and surrounding fire departments arrived.  The sheriff’s office said Jensen was able to get out of the house safely after making the call.
The report states that the houses to the north and south of 452 East Lake Rd. were exposed to the fire.  The house at 453 East Lake Rd. was a loss, and the building at 451 suffered exterior damage.  According to the sheriff’s department, no one was in either of those houses at the time of the fire.
Yates County Sheriff was assisted by the Himrod Fire Department, Hammondsport Fire Department, Dundee Fire Department, Wayne Fire Department, Dresden Fire Department, Pulteney Fire Department, Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulance, and the county’s fire investigation team.  The Yates County Red Cross also responded to the fire to help with emergency assistance of food and clothing.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating.
