Fireworks and more for the holiday

FINGER LAKES—It’s a weekend for fireworks and celebration, as long as the weather cooperates, that is.
The major event this weekend is the races at The Glen. For more on the IndyCar event, click here. However, the track won’t be the only place to have some fun.
Branchport will host its annual July Fourth Celebration, Sunday. The parade will line up at 1 p.m., near the North End Marina. It will start at 2 p.m. and end at the Branchport school. The celebration finishes at 10 p.m., with fireworks. For more, call 315-595-2296 or e-mail bkpfd@roadrunner.com.
The Penn Yan Flying Club will hold its annual Fly-in Breakfast July 4. It will be held at 2487 Old Bath Road, from 6 to 11 a.m. It will feature entertainment, aircraft displays, and rides. For more, contact Harv Greenberg at 607-292-6485 or hgreenberg@frontiernet.net.
Keuka, Waneta, and Lamoka Lakes will be lit up by residents, Sunday evening. Flares are available at stores and restaurants around the lakes and in Penn Yan, Hammondsport and Dundee. The scheduled time to light up the lakes is 10 p.m. For more about Keuka Lake, call 315-536-3111.
The Hammondsport Firemen’s Carnival will be from July 1 to 3. Events start Thursday at 8 p.m. and last until 11 p.m. Friday, the first event is a water based version of tug-of-war, at 7 p.m. A band will play the first two days in the bandstand from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, the day starts at noon with fire truck rides. The firemen’s parade starts around 6 p.m. in the village square. Fireworks will be at 10:30 p.m.
To see fireworks over Seneca Lake this weekend, you can go to the Indy-Pendence Kick-Off Celebration, Friday June 2, at Clute Park. The day starts at noon. Live entertainment will be provided by B&B Sound of Elmira from 2 to 4 p.m., and Virgil Cain from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. The event will also feature food, vendors, and children’s inflatable rides (available at 3 p.m.). Fireworks are scheduled for 9:30 p.m.
Freedom Village will hold its annual “I Love America” program, Saturday, June 3. It will be held at the Lafayette Park in Watkins Glen, starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free, and will feature several Freedom Village musical groups, and area American Legion, VFW, and AMVET members. All veterans present will receive a free DVD of the performances.
