Football falls to Owego 34-20

ODESSA--The Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour varsity football team suffered a 34-20 loss to Owego Friday, Oct. 14 in Odessa. The team falls to 1-6 on the year moving into an away game against Lansing Friday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m.
Owego scored first to take a 6-0 lead, but the Seneca Indians tied it up on a 21-yard touchdown rush by Charles Wright. Owego scored another touchdown late in the first to take a 12-6 lead into the second quarter. The Seneca Indians gave up three more scores in the second quarter on two touchdowns and a field goal, taking a 27-6 deficit into halftime.
Owego scored again in the third quarter to go up 34-6, but the Seneca Indians scored twice before the end of the game. The scores came on a one-yard rush by Wright and an eight-yard rush by Zack Elliott. The final score was 34-20.
"I must say, we came out tonight and gave a Class B school a run for their money," Said Head Coach Trevor Holland. "We capitalized on a great second half, and made it a game when it looked like Owego was going to pull away from us. We put together sustained offensive drives from the hard work of the offensive lineman, and our defense held Owego to only seven second half points. The second half adjustments paid off. We came away healthy, and we now have our sites set on taking down Lansing."
The Seneca Indians offense gained 230 yards Friday night, while the defense gave up 489 yards. Elliott led the offense with 16 carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns. He was followed by Wright's 78 yards on 10 carries and Austin Dalrymple's 73 yards on 16 carries.
Sean Kelly led the defense with 12.5 tackles, followed by Wright's eight and Casey Falls' 6.5. Dalrymple and Alexander Grady each contributed four tackles during the game.
