WATKINS GLEN–On Friday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 12 wrestlers from 21 different schools met at the Watkins Glen field house for the annual Mike Watson wrestling tournament. Overall as a team, Watkins finished in fifth with a score of 135, while Odessa was 12th with an 86. Vestal took the top spot with a 256. Individually, Watkins had three first place winners: Brandon Gould (99), Johnathan Wasson (152) and Josh Burge (170). Gould won his championship match, 6-0, against Collyn Shippos; Wasson defeated Ian VanValen, 2-0; and Burge had a major decision, 11-4, over Jay Phillips. Odessa had one champion, Joe Rorick, who competed in the 106 pound weight class and defeated Tyler Hamsher, 10-2. Other wrestlers that placed in the tournament included: Nicholas Cocola, second (WG-145); Steven Bonham, fourth (OM-182); Ian Chedzoy, fifth (WG-160); Adam Gifford, fifth (OM-132); and Mike Fraboni, sixth (OM-138).
