Gleason ends service on Milo town board

PENN YAN—There was a break in the agenda of the Milo town board meeting Dec. 21 as supervisor John Socha took time out to thank councilman P. Earle Gleason for his service to the town. Gleason, who has served on the town council for 24 years, did not run for reelection in November. Gleason said, “It’s been a great time. You know when it’s time to not run again. The town has good highway equipment and good people coming on the board. I feel I’m leaving the town in good hands.”
Councilman Carroll “Cubby” Graves was also recognized for his term on the board. Socha said, “It was rough for a little while, but Cubby has worked very hard.” Graves answered, “I did what I thought was best for the town.” The two new members of the town council, Leslie Church and Jim Harris, will be sworn in later this month.
In other business: Engineer for the town Wayne Ackart told the board he had met with Bucky Lane to talk about the Country Estates subdivision. Ackart said there may be just one unsold lot left in the subdivision. Ackart said, “Bucky’s plan was to sell all the lots in five years. He did it even in these tough economic times.” Socha asked Ackart about the status of the road in the subdivision and Ackart said the road was built segmentally with some of it built prior to establishment of town road standards. He said part of the road is not paved and the town should not take the road over until it meets town specifications.
• Graves reported on estimates for doors at the town barn, recommending the estimate from Martin’s Door Service in the amount $4,805 be accepted when the new town board meets. He said the company he recommended only does doors.
• The board authorized purchase of a 2009 Ford F250- truck with plow at the state bid of $26,697. The old truck will be retained for use by the Assessors office.
Two meetings were scheduled; the year end meeting at 5:30 p.m Dec. 30 and the 2010 Organizational meeting Jan. 7 at 5:30 p.m. The next regular meeting of the Milo town board will be Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.in the town office on Main Street in Penn Yan.
