HECTOR—Gene Pierce and Scott Welliver, owners of Glenora Wine Cellars (Dundee) and Knapp Winery & Vineyard Restaurant (Romulus) have recently completed the purchase of Chateau LaFayette Reneau (Hector) from Richard and Betty Reno.
“When Scott and I learned that Dick and Betty were considering the sale of Chateau LaFayette Reneau we saw it as a great opportunity for us, having watched the growth of the winery over the past 28 years,” Pierce said. “Its prime location on the southeastern shore of Seneca Lake, the excellent reputation of its wines, vineyards and staff all added to the decision to purchase the winery. Knowing the Reno’s and their dedication to the winery and commitment to the industry were major factors as well.”
Pierce and Welliver plan to maintain the three wineries as separate entities, continuing with each having their own distinct and unique identities. Visitors at Chateau LaFayette Reneau can expect the same wines and customer service.
Plans for the future at Chateau LaFayette Reneau include expansion of the vineyard acreage, as well as expanding the distribution of its wines. “The increased awareness of the Finger Lakes Region and its wines provide and ideal environment for the growth of Chateau LaFayette Reneau,” said Pierce.
Chateau LaFayette Reneau was established in 1985. During the past 28 years the wines have received national and international recognition for the superior quality including The Jerry Mead New World International Wine Competition, Riesling DuMonde, and the Governor’s Cup.
