Grand jury indicts former Barrington officer

YATES COUNTY--John Griffin, formerly the town of Barrington code enforcement officer, has been indicted by a Yates County grand jury on a felony-level for allegedly offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree and issuing a false certificate.
Yates County District Attorney stated in a news release from his office, "The investigation was conducted by the New York State Police in conjunction with the district attorney's office of conduct that is alleged to have occurred in 2014 and 2016." The same indictment contains one count of misdemeanor-level charge of criminal impersonation in the second degree.
The charges relate to a previous dispute between some Barrington officials against a private business, The Olney Place, and the use of their taproom with standing zoning regulations. The conflict was settled last year with the court rejecting the town's appeal on the issue.
Casella said the defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on June 18 in Yates County court.
