Grand Prix features the British Morgan

WATKINS GLEN—The U.S. Vintage Grand Prix will take over Watkins Glen Sept. 11 to 13 with the marque car being the Morgan.
The 17th annual Grand Prix Festival will be Friday, Sept. 11, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The festival will take place on Franklin Street, which will be closed between Second and 10th Streets starting at 1 p.m. Also closing will be Fifth through 10th Streets, between Franklin and Decatur Streets, at 1 p.m. The roads reopen at 9 p.m.
The festival schedule includes:
• Tech Inspection Reenactment at Smalley’s Garage, 9:30 a.m.
• Concours d’Elegance at Watkins Glen State Park lot, 10 a.m.
• Glenora Run cars drive “Montour Mile,” 11 a.m.
• Driver’s Walk of Fame induction ceremonies at courthouse lawn, noon.
• Stone Bridge Drivers rally events start tour of the original race circuit, 1:10 p.m.
• Learn Motors Glenkhana begins on Franklin Street across from Learn Motors, 1:45 p.m.
• Tour de Marque Morgans parked for display at Lafayette Park, 2 p.m.
• The Legends Speak at Lafayette Park, 3 p.m.
• SVRA race cars arrive from Watkins Glen International, 4:30 p.m.
• Concours d’Elegance Awards Ceremony, 5 p.m.
• Watkins Glen Heritage Tour parade laps on the original circuit, 6:10 p.m.
• Watkins Glen Grand Prix Tribute laps on the original circuit, 6:30 p.m.
• Fireworks at the entrance to the Watkins Glen State Park Gorge, 8 p.m.
The racing action at the Glen also starts Friday. Qualifying races begin at 8 a.m. and continue throughout the day. The first race is at 10:05 a.m. with the Classic Enduro Presented by Motor Check On-Site Enduro # 1. The Classic Enduro Presented by Motor Check On-Site Enduro # 2 starts at 1 p.m. that same day. On Saturday, qualifying also starts at 8 a.m., and continues throughout the day with the last race being at 5:45 p.m.
The Optima Battery Sprint Races will be Sunday, with the first race starting at 8:30 a.m. The main races also that day include:
• The 24th Annual SVRA Collier Cup (all MG’s) at 11:30 a.m.
• The New York Governor’s Cup at 1:30 p.m.
• The Centennial Jubilee (100 years of Morgan) at 2:30 p.m.
• The Formula 5000 at 3 p.m.
