Hamilton resigns in Penn Yan

PENN YAN-—Penn Yan Superintendent David Hamilton will be resigning his position June 30 to accept a position in a new district. Hamilton, who has served three years as superintendent of the Penn Yan Central School District, will become the new superintendent of the Baldwinsville Central School District. The school board made this announcement Wednesday, May 28.
“It is with mixed emotions that I leave the Penn Yan schools,” Hamilton said in a letter to the school board. “This is a professional opportunity, but more importantly a personal opportunity to move closer to our immediate family who live in the Syracuse area. The last three years in this district and in this community have been very special for me and my family. And while the work in Penn Yan continues to be meaningful and rewarding, it is the right time for me in my career path to seek this new position.”
The board of education has consulted with the BOCES district superintendent and is in the process of making a decision about an interim superintendent to start July 1, as well as further transition plans. The board will formally act on Hamilton’s resignation at their regularly scheduled meeting June 11. The Dundee Central School District has recently completed a similar selection process following the retirement of former superintendent Kathy Ring earlier this year.
“My hope is that I have had a positive impact on the students of this district,” Hamilton said. “I will always remember my years in this district and community with fondness. I wish the students, staff and community well. It has been an honor and privilege to work with educators, families and community members who are dedicated to helping each and every Penn Yan student achieve their hopes and dreams.”
