Hammondsport graduates start a business

HAMMONDSPORT—Three former Hammondsport high school graduates are operating a business in the village, all while in the middle of college.
Gavin Goodman, Will Bailey, and Ric Wendlandt started BWG Airchairs, to sell “airchairs.”  The products are a variety of padded chairs and benches that hang from an above source.  Goodman said the manufacturer of the airchairs is a friend of his parents.
He added that for the last couple of years he had sold airchairs for the manufacturer at events like music festivals.  Goodman explained he was offered the chance to sell them himself.  So with Bailey and Wendlandt, the company was formed this summer.
BWG Airchairs currently operates out of the greenhouse on the corner of Shether and Main Streets.  Goodman said that Monday through Friday, Baily will operate the store, while taking a year off college.  Goodman and Wendlandt will also come back from college alternating weekends and staff the store.  He added the greenhouse works as a good space because the airchair is a visual product.  From the street, passersby can see the chairs hanging from the ceiling through the greenhouse windows.
Goodman said that by about November, the store will close for the season.  However, the plan is to lease a another location for the business next year.  Goodman explained BWG Airchairs will then move to a space next to the pizza shop.
Goodman said family and friends have been very supportive of their business venture.  He explained people are donating time to help and anything that is needed.  Goodman added that there haven’t been any complaints about the airchairs either.  He said no one that has sat in one has said they weren’t comfortable afterwards.
