HAMMONDSPORT—With the annual fireman's carnival serving as a backdrop for the event, 20 different teams from various fire departments battled against each other to win the waterball competition. Waterball is played by having two poles separated by around 110 feet and then two different teams stand at opposing sides and try to use their water cannons to push a ball that is suspended by wire to the far side. Each team has a guard, nozzle man, backup man, and hose man. Once the ball reaches the far side the water nozzles are turned off. While the hundreds of fans enjoyed watching the event, it is also a time for firefighters to hone their skills using their water cannons in a precise fashion.
