Hammondsport school board 01/20/10

Meeting: The Hammondsport Central School Board of Education met Wednesday,  Jan. 20 for one hour and 45 minutes, plus a 15 minute executive session.
Attendance: Board member Jim Zimar was absent.  There were 14 members of the public in the audience.
Discussion without action: Superintendent Kyle Bower reported that if enacted the governor’s proposed budget, announced days before, would entail a revenue loss of about $260,000 in state aid. If that were the case, and budget totals otherwise remained the same as the current year, a tax levy increase of about five percent would be called for.
• Bower announced that while continuing the option of purchasing via bar code and PIN, the cafeteria will begin offering purchase via finger touchpad. Scans would create not a full fingerprint but a collection of thirty to sixty identification points to be recognized on future scans. Families will have the option to decline participation.
• Secondary Principal Tad Rounds reported that US. News and World Report has recognized Hammondsport as one of “America’s Best High Schools 2010.”
Upcoming meetings:  The next school board meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
