Hammondsport school board 05/11/10

Meeting:  The Hammondsport Central School Board of Education met May 11, for one hour and 45 minutes plus two executive sessions lasting 55 minutes.
Attendance:  All board members were present.  There were 14 members of the public in the audience.
Action: Transferred $50,000 from Undesignated Fund Balance to Unemployment Reserve.
• Abolished a part-time typist position.
• The board removed the part-time nurse position.
Discussion without action: Kevin Overton, representative from Harris Beach Law Office, reported his opinions on the several deeds now constituting the Curtiss School property.  The deed for one tract (grounds only, not covering any of the building) states that the property is conveyed for educational purposes.  Overton reported his opinion that this does not constitute a reverter clause; that if it had been such, the conveyor would have had to maintain any rights with additional legal filings in the thirtieth year after conveyance, and at ten-year intervals thereafter; and that there was no indication that such filings had been made.  He delivered his opinion that the district therefore is eligible, should it elect to do so, to dispose of the property without concern for reversionary language.
Appointments/resignations: The board agreed to terminate the probationary period of teacher Jeffrey Champlin as of June 30.
• The board accepted the following appointments: Jon Lowin, summer driver education teacher; Brandon Pierson, day-to-day substitute teacher, aide, and assistant; Jessica Morton, on-call substitute teacher; and Michelle Sincerbox, Yvonne Erway, Barbara Recchio-Demmin, chaperones for the Spanish Language Club trip to Costa Rica.
Upcoming meetings:  The next regular board meeting will be Thursday, June 17 at 7 p.m.
