Hammondsport tennis players fall in qualifier

HAMMONDSPORT—The Lakers' three tennis players to advance to state qualifiers all lost, Friday, May 21.
Chris Haluszczak played in singles for Hammondsport.  Coach Adam French said he was seeded number 12, despite winning sectionals.  He lost to Aquinas' Kaan Cintugulu, 6-2, 6-1.  French said Haluszczak kept up with his opponent the entire match, going all the way to deuce or 40-30 each game.
Hammondsport also had a doubles team compete.  Peter Woods and Josh Malone lost to their McQuaid opponents in a tie-breaker.  French said the two lost 6-3, 7-6 (0-7 tiebreaker).  He added Woods and Malone came up from behind to try and take the win in the second set.
This was the first state qualifiers for Woods/Malone, but the second year for Haluszczak.
