MONTOUR FALLS--The annual Falls Harvest Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 1 in Montour Falls. The festival is sponsored by the Cayuga Health System and will run from noon to 7 p.m. along Main Street in Montour Falls. The day of events includes a fireworks display over Shequagua Falls that will follow a free outdoor concert by Black Diamond Express, performing from 3 to 7 p.m.
Carole Pierce, director of events, said this year's festival features several activities like a scarecrow contest and a pumpkin carving competition. She said there will be more than 20 food, drink and craft vendors lining the streets, noting visitors will also be able to see a recently completed mural on the side of the Masonic Temple building.
"There will be entertainment all day up and down the street," Pierce said. "The weather is supposed to be great and it is the first day of October. There's nothing better."
The event is put on by Watkins Glen Promotions, with an annual attendance of between 4,000 and 5,000 visitors. Carved pumpkins and decorative scarecrows will be entered into a contest to win cash prizes. All entries will be on display throughout the day and judges will select award winners.
The day's entertainment is made possible by sponsorships from area businesses and organizations. For more information, call 607-535-3003 or visit the festival's web page at http://www.watkinsglen.com/promotions/harvest/.
