WATKINS GLEN-Schuyler County Public Health Department is inviting the community to an open house celebrating National Public Health Week Thursday, April 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. The event will take place in the Mill Creek Center at 106 South Perry St. in Watkins Glen.
Marcia Kasprzyk, Director of Schuyler County Public Health said, "We are looking forward to working hand in hand with the community to promote the health of residents in Schuyler County."
The event will highlight Schuyler County's recent Community Health Assessment that focuses on preventing chronic diseases like obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. Preventing substance abuse while improving mental health is a focus of the report. Improved dental care and greater attention to women and children are also priority areas.
Guests can find out how to get more involved with health coalitions like Schuyler County Coalition on Underage Drinking and Drugs (SCCUDD) and Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) at the event.
Coupons for discounted well water testing, free radon test kits, and free diabetes risk screenings will be available to guests.
