Heavy rain prompts flash flood warning

YATES COUNTY—The National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton issued a flash flood warning for northern Yates County Monday, July 28. The warning was issued at 1:14 p.m. and was in effect until 4:15 p.m.
The warning covered Benton, Bluff Point, Ferguson Corners, Guyanoga, Italy, Keuka Park, Middlesex, Milo Center, Penn Yan, Potter, Rushville, Vine Valley and Yatesville. According to the NWS, heavy rain persisted across the area since late Monday morning, with 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain falling locally according to radar estimates.
Emergency responders acted on a number of calls throughout the afternoon.
