Helping those in need this Christmas

YATES, SCHUYLER COUNTIES—Community members have volunteered their time to once again help families in need this Christmas season.
Christmas for the Needy has helped families in Yates County with Christmas gifts, food, and other supplies.  Organizer Joyce Veil said this year's Christmas for the Needy assisted around 400 families, the same as last year.  Volunteers distributed the gifts and other items last Thursday and Friday.  Veil said Christmas for the Needy is made possible by the work of around 150 volunteers.
In Schuyler County, fire departments will be delivering gifts to families in need this Christmas Eve as part of the annual Seneca Santa program.  Organizer Peg Scott explained this year Seneca Santa will have helped 310 children or 175 families.  She said around 100 volunteers give their time, from collecting, wrapping, sorting, and distributing the presents.  As part of Seneca Santa, Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards raised $23,766 during the 15th annual Seneca Santa fundraiser to benefit the program.
