Himrod Fire Department honors volunteers

HIMROD--The Himrod Fire Department honored first responders their service last year, Saturday, Jan. 20 at the fire department. A number of awards were presented for years of service as well as special recognition for training and response to calls.
There were two firefighters of the year for 2017. Steven Hoover and Jason Hoover won the honor. The First Responders Award was presented to Larry Sitzman.
Sheldon Martin had the most training hours in the department with 253. He also won the chief's award along with Kevin Zimmerman. The Presidential Award winner was Eugene Nolt.
There were five special recognition awards. Each member was also celebrated for their years of service. Active since 1974, Andy Siwak, Ben Vedder and Joyce Vedder received plaques. Arnie Sorensen (1977) and Deb Webster (1979) were also presented plaques.
The Lucy Covert Award went to Barb Sorensen.
The D.B. Miles Award went to Dianne and Norm Hansen.
